After premiering at Sundance earlier this year, IFC Films acquired John and the Hole with a plan to give the tense thriller a U.S. release this August. The movie revolves around 13-year-old John (Charlie Shotwell), who discovers an unfinished bunker in the woods near his house and decides to trap his parents (Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Ehle) and older sister (Taissa Farmiga) inside. The trailer is definitely giving off Goodnight Mommy vibes and it has drawn comparisons to the works of Yorgos Lanthimos, Michael Haneke and Ruben Östlund. Directed by Pascual Sisto and written by Nicolás Giacobone (Birdman, Biutiful), the movie hits select theatres and VOD on August 6th. Check out the trailer below and see what you think.
