It’s been eight years since Joseph Gordon-Levitt made his directorial debut with Don Jon but he is getting back behind the camera this year for a new Apple TV+ series that he wrote and directed. Mr. Corman finds him playing a public school teacher in the San Fernando Valley who once had dreams of being a musician. The show is about his struggles with anxiety and loneliness and it seems to feature some surreal sequences that take us deeper into his mind (you know JGL had to find a way to work some song and dance in there too). Other than that there isn’t much of a hook, it just looks like a certain kind of adult dramedy that feels increasingly uncommon these days. Mr. Corman co-stars Arturo Castro, Logic, Debra Winger, Juno Temple, Jamie Chung and Hugo Weaving and the first two episodes arrive on Apple TV+ on Aug. 6th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.
