We won’t have to wait too long for one of this year’s biggest Cannes premieres to come to Prime Video with Leos Carax’s Annette set to arrive next month, but a couple of weeks before that there will be another notable Cannes film hitting Amazon’s streaming service as well. The upcoming Val Kilmer documentary Val is primarily comprised of footage the actor shot himself throughout his career and serves as a retrospective of his life as an artist, both his successes and failures. Although he acted as a producer on the project, it doesn’t seem afraid to show him in a negative light at times. It feels a bit similar to Soleil Moon Frye’s recent doc Kid 90 although it spans multiple decades and seems a little less pop culture-oriented. The documentary is narrated by Kilmer’s son Jack as Kilmer himself is still recovering from a tracheostomy required for his recent throat cancer treatment. Directed by Leo Scott and Ting Poo, Val hits select theatres on July 23rd and arrives on Amazon Prime on Aug. 6th. Check out the trailer below and see what you think.
