During the MTV Movie Awards last night, Paramount dropped the first trailer for their upcoming G.I. Joe spin-off, Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins. The movie recasts Henry Golding as the fan favourite silent ninja before he was silent and explores his training with an ancient Japanese clan called the Arashikage as well as his rivalry with Storm Shadow (played by Andrew Koji). Scarlett and The Baroness both also make appearances, played by Samara Weaving and Úrsula Corberó respectively, while Iko Uwais plays Hard Master. It is unclear how this fits into Paramount’s future plans for the franchise since they are still apparently developing a proper sequel to G.I. Joe: Retaliation but it will likely feature a mostly new cast. Directed by Robert Schwentke (Red, R.I.P.D.), Snake Eyes: G.I. Joe Origins hits theatres on July 23rd; check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
