It’s been a little over a year since we’ve had any major updates on the fifth Indiana Jones film, but the project is still continuing to move forward and now this week Lucasfilm has dropped a major casting announcement. Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) will star opposite Harrison Ford as the female lead although additional details about the role have not been disclosed. They have also announced that John Williams will be returning as the film’s composer. James Mangold (Logan) is directing with Steven Spielberg remaining actively involved as a producer. Mangold had this to say:
“I’m thrilled to be starting a new adventure, collaborating with a dream team of all-time great filmmakers. Steven, Harrison, Kathy, Frank, and John are all artistic heroes of mine. When you add Phoebe, a dazzling actor, brilliant creative voice and the chemistry she will undoubtedly bring to our set, I can’t help but feel as lucky as Indiana Jones himself.”
Phoebe Waller-Bridge previously worked with Lucasfilm on Solo: A Star Wars Story where she provided the voice of L3-37. The latest draft of the script was reportedly written by James Mangold himself but at one point Solo screenwriter Jonathan Kasdan had taken a stab at it as well. Indiana Jones 5 is set to hit theatres on July 29th, 2022. Do you think Phoebe Waller-Bridge is a great choice for Harrison Ford to play off of?
