After producing such films as Unfriended, Unfriended: Dark Web and Searching, over the past few years Russian filmmaker Timur Bekmambetov has shifted his career to focus almost entirely on movies that take place on a computer screen. At one point it was stated that he had 14 such movies in development (he calls the genre “Screenlife”), but the next one to arrive will be one that he actually directed himself. Profile is based on the true story of Anna Erelle, a French journalist who went undercover online in order to investigate the recruitment of young women by ISIS. The movie premiered at the Berlin International Film Festival back in 2018 where it received decent reviews, although some critics questioned the decision to mine such a serious issue strictly for thrills. Now Focus Features will give it a North American release as movie theatres slowly reopen. Profile arrives in theatres on May 14th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.
