With movie theatres reopening in both L.A. and New York City this month, we’re starting to see some new titles being added to the upcoming release calendar again. Although May is where most of the action seems to be happening, this week Sony has thrown down the gauntlet with an early April release date for their upcoming horror flick The Unholy. The movie marks the directorial debut of screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos (Beauty and the Beast, The Huntsman: Winter’s War) and it is produced by Sam Raimi through Ghost House Pictures. The plot revolves around a girl who is able to heal the sick and work miracles thanks to a blessing from the Virgin Mary, but a journalist (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) starts to suspect that something more sinister may be happening. In a slightly odd marketing move, they are using the religious theme as a way to tie this to an Easter release date. The Unholy hits theatres on April 2nd; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
