American Movie director Chris Smith is one of several acclaimed documentary filmmakers who seems to have developed a comfortable working relationship with Netflix as of late. After previously bringing Jim & Andy: The Great Beyond, Fyre and the true crime series The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann to the streaming service, his latest doc is set to arrive later this month. Operation Varsity Blues tells the story of the U.S. college admissions scandal that made headlines back in 2019 and found charges laid against dozens of wealthy business leaders and celebrities including Lori Loughlin and Felicity Huffman. The movie will feature interviews as well as reenactments of FBI wiretapped conversations with Matthew Modine playing scheme mastermind Rick Singer.
