We’ve known for a couple of years now that a new Supergirl movie was in the works at Warner Brothers, although it was unclear whether this would somehow tie in with the existing DCEU or if it would be a standalone movie like Joker. After a long radio silence, the studio has finally revealed that the character will be introduced in The Flash, their upcoming movie that will bring together multiple DC universes on screen. They have cast relative newcomer Sasha Calle (The Young and the Restless) in the role and she will become the first Latina to portray the character on screen. Director Andy Muschietti had this to say about the announcement:
“I saw more than four hundred auditions. The US, Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia. The talent pool was truly amazing and it was very hard to make a decision, but we finally found an actress who was destined to play this role.”
Calle will star opposite Ezra Miller, who reprises his role as Barry Allen / The Flash from Justice League. The only other casting announcements that have been made public for the movie so far are that Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will both be playing Batman. Given the multiverse stuff going on in the movie, it is unclear if Calle will also star in a standalone Supergirl movie afterward but last we heard a script for that project was being written by Oren Uziel (The Cloverfield Paradox, 22 Jump Street). Are you excited to see Supergirl join the DCEU?
