Paul Theroux’s novel The Mosquito Coast was brought to the big screen back in 1986 by director Peter Weir with a cast that included Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix. Now 35 years later, the book is getting a new adaptation with an interesting twist: the lead role will be played by Paul Theroux’s nephew Justin. It is also being turned into a TV series as opposed to a movie with Neil Cross (Luther, Hard Sun) acting as showrunner and Rupert Wyatt (Rise of the Planet of the Apes) directing a couple of episodes. The plot revolves around an idealistic inventor who uproots his family and moves to Latin America in order to escape the U.S. government. It is a bit unclear if this is a limited series but the first season will consist of just 7 episodes. The Mosquito Coast premieres Apple TV+ on April 30th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.
