In the years following the end of Girls, Lena Dunham has maintained a relationship with HBO by writing and producing the limited series Camping and also directing a couple episodes of Industry. Now she is back as a producer on the new series Generation for HBO Max, although it should be noted that she is not the primary creative force behind it. Created by father / daughter team Daniel and Zelda Barnz (Daniel previously directed Cake and Beastly), the show looks to explore modern day sexuality and gender identity through an ensemble cast of high school students. Comparisons to Euphoria and We Are Who We Are seem inevitable, but one difference here is that Generation will feature only half-hour episodes. With a cast that includes Martha Plimpton, Justice Smith, Chloe East, Lukita Maxwell, Michael Johnston, Nava Mau, Chase Sui Wonders, Nathanya Alexander, Haley Sanchez, Uly Schlesinger and Mary Birdsong, Generation is set to premiere on HBO Max on March 11th.
