There are quite a few new releases arriving on VOD and streaming this week although once again we are seeing a lot of mixed reviews. Sam Levinson’s Malcolm & Marie was a major acquisition for Netflix with early awards buzz for John David Washington and Zendaya but critics have been somewhat unimpressed so far. Netflix also has the Korean sci-fi action movie Space Sweepers arriving this weekend along with the Polish horror comedy All My Friends Are Dead. Meanwhile HBO Max has the first CG-animated Studio Ghibli film Earwig and the Witch (which is also getting panned pretty hard) along with the social media documentary Fake Famous and Amazon has the sci-fi drama Bliss starring Owen Wilson and Salma Hayek (plus, in Canada, the Gerard Butler disaster flick Greenland). Looking to VOD, Viggo Mortensen’s directorial debut Falling seems to be faring slightly better along with the simulation theory documentary A Glitch in the Matrix and the sci-fi love story Little Fish. What will you be watching this weekend?
