Although Disney’s first attempt at using a premium VOD model in Disney+ didn’t immediately succeed with Mulan, they are giving it another shot in March with the release of their upcoming animated film, Raya and the Last Dragon. Directed by Don Hall (Big Hero 6, Moana) and Carlos López Estrada (Blindspotting), the movie takes place in the fantasy world of Kumandra, where a lone warrior must seek out the last remaining dragon in order to help unite a divided land. Featuring the voices of Kelly Marie Tran, Gemma Chan, Awkwafina, Daniel Dae Kim, Sandra Oh and Benedict Wong, the movie draws from Southeast Asian cultures and looks to deliver some breathtaking visuals. Over the past decade, Walt Disney Animation Studios’ own CG animated work has become just as acclaimed as Pixar and this looks like it has the potential to be another massive hit. Raya and the Last Dragon arrives in theatres and on Disney+ Premier Access on March 5th; check out the new trailer below and let us know what you think.
