Netflix may have taken on Martin Scorsese’s big budget passion project The Irishman when no one else would, but their working relationship looks like it will continue on with some of his smaller projects as well. Last year they released his Bob Dylan documentary Rolling Thunder Revue and now to start off 2021 we are getting a new documentary series directed by Scorsese called Pretend It’s a City. The series centers on his long-time friend and writer Fran Lebowitz as she expresses her love-hate relationship with New York City (among other things). It clearly has a comedic angle and seems to be a continuation of sorts to Scorsese’s previous Lebowitz doc Public Speaking. It also appears to have been shot pre-COVID. Pretend It’s a City arrives on Netflix on Jan. 8th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.
