David Gordon Green in Talks to Direct a New Exorcist Sequel for Blumhouse

After the success of their 2018 Halloween reboot / sequel, Blumhouse is being handed the reins to yet another beloved horror franchise. A new sequel to the 1973 classic The Exorcist appears to be in the works and we are hearing that David Gordon Green is the man they have in mind to direct it. It was rumoured earlier this year that Morgan Creek was developing an Exorcist reboot with an eye on releasing it in 2021. This would seem to confirm that fact although no official announcement has been made as of yet. Hit the jump for more details.
The news was first reported by Observer, but has since been backed up by Variety as well. David Gordon Green is reportedly in talks to direct with Jason Blum, David Robinson and James Robinson on board as producers. It is unclear if this would be David Gordon Green’s next film following Halloween Kills, which was delayed from last October to Oct. 15th, 2021.
William Friedkin recently spoke out on Twitter to clarify that he is not involved in this new movie and that “there’s not enough money or motivation in the world” to get him to do it. Morgan Creek also insisted years ago that they would never remake the original film. With that in mind, it seems likely that this will follow the same formula as Halloween by being a direct sequel while possibly ignoring some of the other films in the series. David Gordon Green is also attached to direct the pilot for a Hellraiser TV series on HBO. Are you willing to give a new Exorcist sequel a shot?
