Over the past decade Rodney Ascher has built up a solid filmography of genre-influenced documentaries that includes Room 237, The Nightmare and The El Duce Tapes. His latest film looks to continue down that path but leans a little more towards sci-fi than horror. A Glitch in the Matrix is an exploration of one of the more pressing philosophical questions of our time: could we all be living inside a simulation? The movie draws from Philip K. Dick’s simulation theory speech from 1977 and fictional interpretations like The Matrix in addition to featuring recent interviews with scientists, mathematicians, philosophers and conspiracy theorists. This looks like it could be a pretty fun rabbit hole to dive down. A Glitch in the Matrix will premiere at Sundance next month before arriving in select theatres and on VOD on Feb. 5th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
