Disney Announces Star Wars Rogue Squadron Movie, Lando Series, The Return of Hayden Christensen and More

It wasn’t that long ago that Disney and Lucasfilm announced that they were going to be slowing down the number of upcoming Star Wars releases for a while partially due to the failure of Solo. Since then, however, The Mandalorian has been a huge success on Disney+, prompting them to move full steam ahead with a huge slate of upcoming Star Wars TV shows. During Disney’s 2020 Investors Day event this week the studio announced a staggering number of Star Wars projects in development including nine shows and a couple of feature films. Here’s the full list of what was announced:

  • Rangers of the New Republic, a new Original Series set within the timeline of The Mandalorian
  • Ahsoka, a live-action series starring Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano
  • Lando, a Lando Calrissian event series from Dear White People creator Justin Simien
  • The Acolyte, a mystery-thriller set in the last days of a new era called The High Republic from Russian Doll creator Leslye Headland
  • Hayden Christensen will return as Darth Vader in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series starring Ewan McGregor, set 10 years after Revenge of the Sith
  • Visions, an Animatrix-style anthology series that explores the Star Wars galaxy in anime shorts
  • A Droid Story, an animated Star Wars adventure film for Disney+ introducing a new hero guided by R2-D2 and C-3PO
  • Rogue Squadron, the next major Star Wars feature film directed by Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman) and coming in 2023

They also released sizzle reels for the Andor series and The Bad Batch, both of which are coming in 2022. In addition, they announced that Indiana Jones 5 is now dated for July 2022 and it will be Harrison Ford’s final film as Indy. The Willow series is also coming to Disney+ in 2022.
