After years of rumours and heated fan casting debates, Sony’s Metal Gear Solid movie is closer than ever to becoming a reality and we finally have a big name actor attached to play Solid Snake. We are hearing this week that Oscar Isaac has signed on to play the lead role in the highly anticipated video game adaptation. This comes after the recent announcement that he will also star in Marvel’s Moon Knight series. Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) will direct the movie from a script by Derek Connolly (Jurassic World). Hit the jump for more details.
According to Deadline, Oscar Isaac is attached to play Solid Snake in the Metal Gear Solid movie. The movie has been in development since the mid-2000s when Equilibrium director Kurt Wimmer was said to be involved and actors like Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale were rumoured (though never confirmed) to have been pursued for the lead. Avi Arad was attached as a producer back then and now he and his son Ari Arad remain on board as producers.
Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima is also involved, although it is unclear how much creative input he will have. The game series has sold over 56 million copies and remains a beloved franchise although its future is somewhat questionable after Kojima’s departure from development studio and publisher Konami in 2015. They have always been very cinematic games (perhaps to a fault) with convoluted plots and a strange tone that seems like it could be a challenge to capture in a feature film. Do you think Oscar Isaac is a great choice to play Solid Snake?
