After a career-defining and multiple Emmy award-winning turn as Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones, Peter Dinklage now finds himself in the tricky position of landing some solid follow-ups to such a beloved role. Although he has had appearances in recent blockbusters like Avengers: Infinity War, X-Men: Days of Future Past and Pixels, high-profile lead roles have been a little less frequent. That being said, he is currently in production on Joe Wright’s Cyrano and this week we are hearing that he will be headlining an intriguing project that has the potential to be great: Legendary’s upcoming reboot of the Troma cult classic The Toxic Avenger. Hit the jump to find out what we know.
According to Deadline, Peter Dinklage is set to star in The Toxic Avenger for Legendary Entertainment. Macon Blair (I Don’t Feel at Home in This World Anymore) will write and direct what is being called “a contemporary reimagining” that “subverts the superhero genre in the vein of Deadpool.” Although other outlets were not specific, Variety is reporting that Dinklage will indeed play Toxie himself.
Although this project has been in development for years now, the choice of Macon Blair as writer and director gives some indication that it will retain the dark edge of the original. Blair is also writing and directing a movie for Legendary called Brothers that is said to be a comedy in the vein of Twins with Peter Dinklage attached to star alongside Josh Brolin. Dinklage’s upcoming projects also include Mel Gibson’s The Wild Bunch remake. Are you looking forward to The Toxic Avenger reboot?
