We Can Be Heroes Teaser Trailer: Robert Rodriguez’s Sharkboy & Lavagirl Sequel

Although we have yet to hear anything about an Alita: Battle Angel sequel (last month’s theatrical re-release notwithstanding), Robert Rodriguez is keeping himself busy by returning to family-friendly fare in a surprising way. His next movie is called We Can Be Heroes and it is a follow-up to the 2005 film The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl 3-D complete with Taylor Dooley reprising her role as a grown-up version of Lavagirl. (Sadly, Taylor Lautner opted not to return as Sharkboy and has been replaced by JJ Dashnaw.) The movie revolves around a team of superheroes called The Heroics who need to be rescued by their super-powered kids after getting kidnapped. Clearly it is partially inspired by Spy Kids as well and the CG looks every bit as ugly as we’ve come to expect from Rodriguez. That being said, he managed to recruit an adult cast that includes Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Pedro Pascal, Christian Slater, Sung Kang and Boyd Holbrook. We Can Be Heroes arrives on Netflix on New Year’s Day; check out the teaser trailer below and see what you think.
