Originally scheduled for release back in 2019, Doug Liman’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Chaos Walking is finally set to arrive in theatres this January (maybe). It wasn’t just COVID that pushed this movie back, however; poor test screenings reportedly prompted extensive reshoots. The movie is based on the YA trilogy of the same name by Patrick Ness and takes place in the not too distant future where all women have disappeared and men are afflicted by something called “the Noise”, which visualizes their thoughts for all to see. When a mysterious girl (Daisy Ridley) crash lands on the planet, Todd Hewitt (Tom Holland) vows to protect her from dark and dangerous forces. In terms of Liman’s filmography, this looks to be more Jumper than Edge of Tomorrow, but it is also interesting to note that Charlie Kaufman wrote the original draft of the screenplay (several rewrites later, he no longer has a credit on the finished product). Chaos Walking arrives in theatres on Jan. 22nd; check out the first trailer below and let us know what you think.
