Although Pixar’s Soul is going directly to Disney+ in December, Disney is still hoping that enough theatres will be open in March to release their next animated movie, Raya and the Last Dragon. The first trailer has arrived online this week, introducing us to the fantasy world of Kumandra, where Raya (voiced by Kelly Marie Tran) is tasked with tracking down the last dragon (voiced by Awkwafina) to bring peace to a divided land. Perhaps more importantly, she also has a cute armadillo sidekick named Tuk Tuk. Stylistically, it seems a bit reminiscent of Kubo and the Two Strings although the backstory with the dragons (not really shown in this trailer) will probably bring comparisons to How to Train Your Dragon or Dragonheart. Raya and the Last Dragon is directed by Don Hall (Moana, Big Hero 6) and Carlos López Estrada (Blindspotting) with co-directors Paul Briggs and John Ripa and it hits theatres on March 12th, 2021.
