A few months ago we heard that a Mad Max: Fury Road prequel was starting to pick up steam despite the fact that Charlize Theron would not be reprising the role of Imperator Furiosa. At the time, it was also mentioned that auditions were being held to find a potential replacement and Anya Taylor-Joy (The New Mutants, Split) was among the candidates. Now this week it appears that Taylor-Joy has indeed landed that role, while two other big names have also joined the cast. Hit the jump to find out what we know.
According to Deadline, Anya Taylor-Joy will star in Furiosa for Warner Brothers, taking over the role played by Charlize Theron in 2015’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II will also co-star although their roles have yet to be revealed. The movie is a prequel that takes place prior to the events of Fury Road and it seems unlikely that Max Rockatansky himself will make an appearance.
George Miller is returning to the director’s chair for this project and co-wrote the script with previous collaborator Nico Lathouris. Several other key members of the Fury Road creative team are expected to return as well including production designer Colin Gibson, cinematographer John Seale and second unit director / stunt coordinator Guy Norris. The project is said to be in “advanced development” although it is unclear when it might start production. Do you think Anya Taylor-Joy will make a great Furiosa?
