David Fincher’s Mank Trailer
Although they came close with Roma, The Irishman and Marriage Story, this time around Netflix may have their most legitimate shot at a Best Picture win with David Fincher’s Mank (the lack of studio competition this year doesn’t hurt either). Of course, Fincher himself has previously been nominated for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and The Social Network but never won either. Mank stars Gary Oldman as screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, battling alcoholism and Orson Welles as he tries to finish the script for Citizen Kane in the late ’30s. The movie is shot in black-and-white and borrows the visual style of Hollywood films of the era. With a supporting cast that includes Amanda Seyfried, Lily Collins, Arliss Howard, Tom Pelphrey, Sam Troughton, Ferdinand Kingsley, Tuppence Middleton, Tom Burke and Charles Dance, the movie hits select theatres in November before arriving on Netflix on Dec. 4th.
