Paul Greengrass’s News of the World Trailer Starring Tom Hanks

Although there are only a handful of studio movies still planning to hit theatres this December, it appears that Universal is standing behind their planned release date for Paul Greengrass’s upcoming film News of the World. The first extended TV spot has arrived online this week and it confirms that they will go up against Wonder Woman 1984 on Christmas Day. The movie finds Paul Greengrass reteaming with Tom Hanks after the success of Captain Phillips, but perhaps even more intriguing is the fact that it finds him trying his hand at a western. Based on the novel by Paulette Jiles, the story revolves around a widowed Civil War veteran who agrees to escort an orphaned ten-year-old girl across Texas to her aunt and uncle hundreds of miles away. News of the World hits theatres on Dec. 25th; check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
