Although its theatrical release was delayed indefinitely earlier this year due to COVID-19, Warner Brothers has made a surprise announcement that their upcoming adaptation of the Roald Dahl classic The Witches will be debuting this month on HBO Max instead (in the U.S., that is). Directed by Robert Zemeckis, the movie stars Anne Hathaway as the leader of a group of witches who are staying at the same hotel as a young boy and his grandmother. Jahzir Kadeem Bruno plays The Boy while Octavia Spencer plays his grandmother and Chris Rock narrates. The movie is co-written by Guillermo del Toro and Kenya Barris and it is said to be more faithful to the original novel than Nicolas Roeg’s 1990 film, although that’s what everyone says when they’re doing a remake. The Witches arrives on HBO Max on Oct. 22nd but it will still hit theatres internationally on Oct. 28th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.
