I got an Xbox Series X pre-order and I didn’t even want one. Anyone willing to trade for a PS5? #TheConsoleWarIsOverAccordingToEddie

  • Ben Bueno

The Eddie era of FJ has officially begun

  • Ben Bueno

Also Sean, Nausicaa is one of Miyazaki’s worst, in my opinion at least. If you decide to give him another shot I would seek out Princess Mononoke, Castle of Cagliostro, The Wind Rises or Kiki’s Delivery Service.

  • Sean

Thanks. I really liked Castle of Cagliostro. I have seen a few others (Spirited Away, Totoro) and liked them a fair bit more than Nausicaa as well (which I did still like). I think Princess Mononoke will be next on my list.

  • Ben Bueno

    Good pick!

  • Jay Lee

Nausicaa came out March ’84… Dune December ’84.

Frank, you can’t get too caught up in the comment section. Who knows what kind of losers are down here trying to chirp you. I, for example, work at Walmart, and have squandered much of my potential. Who cares what I think about PS trophies, or anything for that matter? You, Frank, have made video games and are the co-host of a well respected film podcast. Let’s keep things in perspective. What would Eddie say if he knew you were so hard on yourself?

  • Sean

True, but the book came out in the ’60s.

I’ve got a good film recommendation for anyone who believes the media when it says both that covid is just a slightly bad flu which 98.54% of people recover from and that we are in an unprecedented pandemic that requires permanent changes to the fabric of how our societies work.

It’s good thing for the media that we’ve become a world of guilt-ridden hypochondriacs that upon getting a sore throat commence to checking google to make sure it’s not cancer. We are doomed. Our governments are
run by characters on the level of Aztec priests and most of us are flocking to
get our hearts cut out and offered up to the spectral god of public
health and safety. It is no coincidence, I assure you, that Maximilien Robespierre was a member of Revolutionary France’s Commitee of Public Safety. Of course, for those who don’t know, in the interest of Public Safety, Robespierre had 17,000 people guillotined.

I love this notion too, that we live in an era when there are no more tyrannies. Governmental tyranny just stopped at some point, even though it has been a fundamental thread of human history, and we now apparently live in the blessed utopias that Marx could have only dreamed of. Our leaders are all magnanimous, saintly folk, who have nothing but our best interest in mind. And these same leaders tell us that anyone who thinks otherwise is deeply mentally ill, a conspiracy theorist even. Its a Sesame Street mentality and let me repeat, we are doomed for having it. In fact, check out some insanity from Sesame Street here on the subject of the police:

Go to reddit/facebook/etc. with this shit, man. We’re just hear to talk about movies, Tim Horton’s menu selections, and physical media organization.

  • Blake in Boston

Oh, and Frank’s bread brand preferences. #WonderBoy

  • Ben Bueno

    Eaaaaaaasy bud

  • OsoDuck

I’ll tie it into the upcoming Screamium just so I’m not completely off topic:

  • OsoDuck

You know all the bits Blake. Can’t get one past you.

  • Ben Bueno

Sean, it just hit me why this year has been so terrible. No Reed appearances! Gotta get him in a future ep.

  • Ben Bueno

The joke was about 2020 as a whole, not the year in Film Junk of course

  • Sean

I’ve extended an invitation a few times but he hasn’t been interested unfortunately. It’s a little harder since he doesn’t have internet access at home so he would have to park somewhere that has free wifi. Which would be amazing, obviously, but I think it’s an extra hassle for him.

  • Ben Bueno

I see. This year really does suck..

  • Reed Farrington

Ben, I stunk up Film Junk’s Zoom livestream for Patreon subscribers. Sean tells me the recording will be made available to non-Patreon subscribers. You’ll find out how Taylor Swift puts me to bed every night. Hope this makes your year a little better.

  • Ben Bueno

So you’re saying there’s still hope. Nice!
