It’s that time of year when we would normally start to see trailers for the upcoming awards season movies being released, but of course, at this point it is unclear if any of these movies will be coming to theatres or if there will actually be much of an awards season per se. Warner Brothers has just released the first trailer for Judas and the Black Messiah, which certainly feels like an important prestige film but it does not yet have a release date set. The movie is directed by Shaka King and tells the story of Fred Hampton, the Chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party in the late ’60s, who was betrayed by an FBI informant. With a cast that includes Daniel Kaluuya, LaKeith Stanfield, Jesse Plemons, Martin Sheen and Lil Rel Howery, this will apparently be coming to theatres sometime in 2021 although that is all we know at this point (movies released up to Feb. 28th, 2021 can still qualify for the Oscars). Check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
