Film Junk Premium Podcast #82: Sylvester Stallone

“Rambo is a pussy.” This month’s premium podcast brings us back to the filmography of Sylvester Stallone, looking beyond the Rocky and Rambo franchises to examine many of his most memorable one-off action movies. We start with Cobra and Tango & Cash before moving into the ’90s with Cliffhanger and Demolition Man, then conclude with one of Stallone’s most acclaimed performances in Cop Land. Discussion topics include the life span of the ’80s action movie, the prescience of Demolition Man‘s future world, Stallone’s acting range and the reality of the 4K bump. Does Tango & Cash make any sense? Did Sylvester Stallone actually ghost direct some of these movies? More importantly, why would anyone eat pizza with scissors? You’re the disease and this premium podcast is the cure… download it now via the link below.

Speaking of Tango and Cash director, Andrei Konchalovsky, I always thought this article from 2016 was hilarious. I mean, “Tango and Cash” is the epitome of a “popcorn” movie!

Now that we’ve done Stallone three times, I sincerely recommend that you guys tackle John Cassavetes. I think there is a lot of weird stuff to dig into there and I think even Frank might get something out of his work.
