Although we’re not really getting a summer movie season in theatres this year, some of the streaming services are at least doing their best to throw some big dumb action movies our way (for better or worse). Netflix’s Project Power definitely feels like a typical late August release, right down to the fact that it apparently sat on a shelf for two years before getting released. Directed by Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost (Catfish, Paranormal Activity 3 and 4), the movie seems vaguely reminiscent of Chronicle, Sleight and Limitless with a plot that revolves around a drug that can give ordinary people superhuman abilities… but only for five minutes at a time. I suppose it’s a way of doing a grounded superhero movie on a budget by way of a low stakes crime thriller. Project Power stars Jamie Foxx, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dominique Fishback, Machine Gun Kelly, Amy Landecker and Courtney B. Vance and it arrives on Netflix on Aug. 14th; check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
