CBS has just released the first trailer for their upcoming animated series Star Trek: Lower Decks, which is definitely going where no Star Trek show has gone before. Created by Mike McMahan (Rick and Morty, Solar Opposites), this is a comedic take on the franchise that is aimed at adults without quite getting into R-rated territory. It revolves around the support crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos and the not-so-glamorous side of life on a Federation starship with a voice cast that includes Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, Eugene Cordero and Jerry O’Connell. It’s a tricky thing to be attempting to parody Star Trek from within and I’m not quite sure if this will be successful; either way, you can be sure it will be directly compared to things like Galaxy Quest and The Orville.
