Before the COVID-19 lockdown, there were a lot of direct-to-VOD movies that came and went without ever getting noticed. Now, however, almost every new release is getting attention, which is particularly great for genre filmmakers. This week Paramount announced the upcoming release Body Cam, a horror movie that stars Mary J. Blige as a cop who is investigating the unexplained death of a colleague. The body cam footage from his death seems to reveal something supernatural is at play, and although you might assume the whole movie would be shot in a found footage style, that does not appear to be the case. It remains to be seen whether this is something that would have received a theatrical release under normal circumstances, but it seems to have potential even if the trailer isn’t exactly mind-blowing. Directed by Malik Vitthal (Imperial Dreams), the movie co-stars Nat Wolff and arrives on digital for purchase on May 19th and rental on June 2nd.
