Boba Fett Apparently Confirmed for The Mandalorian: Season 2

Before the failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story unceremoniously put the kibosh on any additional Star Wars spin-off movies, it was already known that one of the projects in development was a Boba Fett movie. The bounty hunter has long been a fan favourite in the Star Wars universe and one that could be ripe to explore further since so little is known about him. Jon Favreau’s The Mandalorian TV series was no doubt inspired by the fascination and intrigue surrounding the character but up until now it was unclear if he could ever make an appearance since he supposedly died in Return of the Jedi. However, it looks like the folks over at Disney and Lucasfilm simply could not resist and are now planning the return of this beloved character in season 2. Hit the jump for more details.

According to THR, Temuera Morrison has been cast to play Boba Fett in season 2 of The Mandalorian. The actor played Jango Fett in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones, where it was revealed that Boba Fett was actually a clone of Jango who decides to raise him as his son. Boba Fett fell into the Sarlacc pit in Return of the Jedi but his fate was never fully confirmed. This left the door open for the Expanded Universe to have him escape using his jet pack and make appearances in many official Star Wars novels afterward.

Boba Fett’s return was already teased in the first season of The Mandalorian, where a character wearing his trademark spurs is seen approaching and kneeling beside a dead body. It is still unclear if that was indeed Boba Fett but it certainly seems even more likely now. His role in season 2 is said to be a small one but fans are understandably divided over the possibility. While some would much prefer that he remain shrouded in mystery, others have praised Dave Filoni’s work in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and his ability to expand on well-known characters.
