After her standout performance in The Invisible Man earlier this year, Neon is about to drop another intriguing Elisabeth Moss film in our laps in less than a month. Shirley is based on the novel by Susan Scarf Merrell and finds Moss playing a fictionalized version of The Haunting of Hill House writer Shirley Jackson. The story revolves around a young couple who move in with Jackson and her husband (played by Michael Stuhlbarg) only to find themselves becoming “fodder for a psycho-drama that inspires Jackson’s next major novel.” Directed by Josephine Decker (Madeline’s Madeline) and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, the movie earned positive reviews at Sundance where Decker won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Auteur Filmmaking. Shirley arrives on VOD on June 5th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
