Judd Apatow’s The King of Staten Island Debuting on VOD in June

Although it was originally set to premiere at SXSW and then hit theatres in the U.S. on June 19th, Judd Apatow’s upcoming movie The King of Staten Island was just one of many summer releases that was put on hold as a result of COVID-19. However, in light of the fact that it is a comedy and not a giant action movie like Black Widow or Top Gun: Maverick, Universal is now opting for a direct to VOD release instead. The movie stars Pete Davidson and is loosely based on his life, so Davidson and Apatow put together a little announcement video confirming that it will arrive on demand in June. I assume we’ll probably be seeing a trailer in the near future as well. Suffice to say, there will probably be more than a few theatre owners expressing concern that yet another high profile movie is skipping a theatrical release altogether. The King of Staten Island hits VOD on June 12th; check out the announcement video below.
