Props to Frank for watching Treasure of the Sierra Madre, one of the greatest films ever made, but also “Frankie Face Palm” at confusing Bogart for Cagney.

  • TimC

That mix-up was a little concerning. The only rational next step is a Bogart (or John Huston, or Howard Hawks) premium.

Pre-1970 premium coverage is in desperately short supply.

  • Lori Cerny

Had to turn the TV brightness waaaay up for Sea Fever.

  • Lori Cerny

Please, please, please do The Maltese Falcon!!!!!!

  • Lior

I cannot fully explain the giddy pleasure that possesses one’s upon hearing Frank reviewing an oldie-goldie like Treasure of Sierra Madre. Did you watch it on Criterion, Frank? How did this come about?
It should be mentioned that Walter Huston is of course the father of John Huston, the director, and that this movie originated the famous line “we don’t need no stinking badges” which was parodied in many movies, most memorably in this scene from UHF:

  • Sam

I’ve begged for a Film Noir premium. Please!!

    Maltese Falcon
    Big Sleep
    Asphalt Jungle
    The Big Heat
    Double Indemnity
    Pickup on South Street
    The Killing
Kiss Me Deadly (Frank might be interested in the Tarantino reference)

Any mixture of a few of those would be great!

Also, would like to hear Frank watch Rififi though that’s even more of a long shot.

  • Ben Bueno

    Great episode

  • Sean

You’re in luck, Frank did watch Rififi on Episode #527!

  • Sam

Okay, I actually did think that when I said it but then checked Letterboxd and didn’t see it logged for Frank and figured I misremembered, but now I see it there. Thanks for the reminder!

Did Frankie edit his Letterboxd to make it more generic? As in no last name or avatar. Was it getting too personal?

What the fuck is ‘on death’s door’? Who is ‘on a door’ and since when would that be a thing people say. At death’s door!
