Hellraiser Reboot Gets a Director

For almost 15 years now, we’ve been hearing about a potential Hellraiser reboot with Clive Barker himself writing a script and potentially throwing his hat in the ring to direct as well. Some other people got involved over time as well but so far the series has only ended up getting a couple of additional direct-to-video sequels that fans have generally regarded as contractual obligations. This week, however, we are hearing that Pinhead may finally be getting the fresh start that he deserves. Now under new ownership, a Hellraiser reboot is once again back in development with an established genre filmmaker attached to make it a reality. Hit the jump for more details.
According to THR, David Bruckner will direct the new Hellraiser for Spyglass Media Group. Bruckner’s latest film The Night House premiered at Sundance earlier this year where it was acquired by Searchlight for $12 million. He also previously directed The Ritual and contributed to a handful of anthology films including The Signal, V/H/S and Southbound.
The script is being written by Ben Collins and Luke Piotrowski (Super Dark Times) from a story by David Goyer (Dark City). Details are being kept under wraps but they are describing the new movie as “loyal, yet evolved.” Spyglass Media Group is a partnership between Gary Barber and Lantern Entertainment co-presidents Andy Mitchell and Milos Brajovic, who acquired the Dimension Films catalogue after the Weinstein bankruptcy last year. They are also developing a new Scream movie as well. Are you excited to see a Hellraiser reboot finally move forward?
