Netflix has just released a trailer for an upcoming animated movie called The Willoughbys, based on the 2008 children’s book by Lois Lowry (The Giver). It appears to be riffing on the work of Lemony Snicket and Roald Dahl (among others) and has a surprisingly dark premise: a group of siblings despise their self-involved parents and try to get rid of them by sending them on an extended vacation. The movie is directed by Kris Pearn (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2) and the character designs have a slightly creepy edge courtesy of Craig Kellman (Hotel Transylvania, The Addams Family). The Willoughbys features the voices of Will Forte, Maya Rudolph, Alessia Cara, Terry Crews, Martin Short, Jane Krakowski, Séan Cullen, and Ricky Gervais and it arrives on Netflix on April 22nd.
