May is continuing to lose more movies to COVID-19 this week with Lionsgate removing three of their upcoming releases from the calendar including Spiral: From the Book of Saw, Antebellum and Run. Spiral: From the Book of Saw is intended to be a soft reboot of the long-running horror series with Chris Rock in the lead role and is probably the biggest title on that list. It was scheduled to hit theatres on May 15th while Antebellum and Run were scheduled for April 24th and May 8th respectively. No new release dates have been announced at this time.

Some of these movies feel like they could be decent candidates for direct to VOD releases but it is unclear if Lionsgate is considering such a move. Wide releases from other studios still remaining in May include Legally Blonde 3, Scoob! and The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge on the Run with Artemis Fowl coming right at the end of the month. I’m sure we can expect more delays as uncertainty continues to grow. Will we get to see any movies in theatres at all this summer? Let’s hope so.
