Monday Morning Box Office Report: The Invisible Man Sneaks Into First Place

Universal and Blumhouse topped the weekend box office with a solid performance by The Invisible Man, debuting at #1 with $29 million. That puts it in the same league as successful Blumhouse sequels like The Purge: Anarchy, Insidious: The Last Key and Paranormal Activity 4, although it is still slightly less than the Tom Cruise version of The Mummy made back in June 2017. Sonic the Hedgehog fell to second place and has now earned $128 million domestically ($265 million worldwide) and is about to pass Lara Croft: Tomb Raider to become the second biggest video game adaptation ever. The Call of the Wild dropped to third while the anime film My Hero Academia: Heroes Rising came out of nowhere to grab fourth place with $5.1 million. Bad Boys for Life rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, Impractical Jokers: The Movie jumped into the top 10 with $3.5 million after a nationwide expansion.
