Monday Morning Box Office Report: Sonic Stays Ahead of the Pack

Despite a strong opening weekend for The Call of the Wild, Sonic the Hedgehog held on to the brass ring at the box office for the second weekend in a row. Paramount’s video game adaptation continues to impress, adding another $26.3 million and bringing its total to $106 million after ten days, which is good enough for #4 on the all-time domestic box office list for movies based on video games. 20th Century’s The Call of the Wild starring Harrison Ford opened in second place with $24.8 million, slightly exceeding expectations although the movie reportedly cost $135 million to make so it still has some work to do. Birds of Prey fell to third while Brahms: The Boy II debuted in fourth with a lacklustre $5.9 million. Bad Boys for Life rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, Impractical Jokers: The Movie opened at #11 with $2.6 million, which is pretty solid considering it was playing on just over 350 screens. That movie could easily jump into the top 10 in the coming weeks as it continues to expand.
