Bad Education Trailer Starring Hugh Jackman

Thoroughbreds director Cory Finley returns with his sophomore effort this year and it is another dark comedy, this time based on a true story. Bad Education premiered at TIFF last year where it was well-reviewed and ended up being acquired by HBO in one of the biggest deals of the festival. The movie stars Hugh Jackman and Allison Janney as the superintendents of a Long Island school district that is on the rise. When a student reporter starts to investigate an embezzlement scam, however, they are forced to cover up the corruption at any cost. Bad Education arrives on HBO on April 25th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.

I’d be curious to know if any of the actors in this are upset that HBO picked it up. I recall this getting a lot of Oscar buzz prior to TIFF. I guess there should now be Emmy buzz instead? It does look great though.

I was just reading something about the acquisition and it said they were holding out for a potential theatrical release but no other distributor came close to what HBO was offering ($20 million). I wonder if HBO will ever consider doing the Netflix limited theatrical release thing for their movies.

Ya, I guess there’s not really a choice when the offer is that big. Good thought on the Netflix model, and HBO do have their new streaming service starting soon so maybe that is what they have planned.
