    RE: Oscar ratings going down.

Any chance this has to do with the fact that it isn’t streaming? As far as I know, the only way to watch the Oscars is to watch it on cable. The only thing I watch on TV is sports and sometimes SNL.

I suspect if the Oscars would stream online, more people may watch it… or not?

It appears that the ratings for the Grammys are falling as well. The winners for the Grammys are typically the most popular artists in music.

Compare that to the lesser known movies that win at the Oscar’s, that might suggest that the popularity of the Oscar nominees might not be as much of a factor of the ratings decline that I’ve heard some people suggest in the past.

I don’t think the Grammys are streaming either (I could be very wrong about this). If that’s the case, the ratings decline for both awards shows may in fact be due to the fact that people are less likely to watch shows on cable in general.

The Oscars should maybe stream the show online next year and see if viewership goes up. If it does, good for them. They solved the problem. If not, then my hypothesis is wrong and you could conclude that people just aren’t interested.

  • I’m surprised that Avengers: Endgame wasn’t nominated as Best Picture. I thought the whole point of extending (or theoretically, doubling) the nominees in that category was to get the ratings up because the Mouthbreathers would tune in to see if their shitty blockbuster takes the gold and they don’t care about smaller artistic films like Moonlight.

Otherwise they might as well dial the number of nominees back down to 5 like in every other category (which I would prefer).

Are you planning to move the Premium Podcasts to Patreon in the future? My phone seems to hate the Bandcamp app. It only works when it wants to.
