Marcel Marceau is one of the most legendary mimes of all time, but before he was famous he took part in the French resistance during WWII. The upcoming film Resistance, written and directed by Jonathan Jakubowicz (Hands of Stone), focuses on this “untold story” with Jesse Eisenberg taking on the lead role. The film seems somewhat reminiscent of Life is Beautiful in that it finds Marceau using his mime skills to help entertain and save orphaned Jewish children during the war (he was also Jewish himself). That being said, it does seem to strike a more serious tone, which should help it avoid some of the criticism levelled at Roberto Benigni’s film for being too glib (not unlike Jojo Rabbit). IFC Films will release Resistance in select theatres and on VOD on March 27th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.
