Update: The Patreon integration is now set up. You should get notified about it if you are a Patron, please let us know if you don’t!
As always, we are a little late finalizing our plans for Oscar night this year but from a certain perspective we’re not late this time around, they’re just way too early. The good news is that our annual Oscar pool is back and Falsk has come up with a much less painful way for everyone to send in their picks. Our annual live Oscar chat will also be happening but this time around we’re moving the party to Discord. It will be open to everyone but we’re hoping to have an exclusive channel within it just for Patreon subscribers (technical issues notwithstanding). Hit the jump for more details.
The Film Junk Oscar pool is free to enter. Instead of using Gold Derby this year, we are accepting submissions via Google Forms. It will require a Google account to enter, but you will be able to edit your picks afterward right up until the start of the Oscar telecast. The winner will receive a $50 Amazon gift card and bragging rights so what have you got to lose? Fill out your Oscar picks here.
As for the live Oscar chat, this year we will be using Discord. For those unfamiliar with it, it is a chat program like Slack that allows both text and voice channels. There is a mobile app but you can also use it in most web browsers. This will be a text-only chat but if we can get the Patreon integration working, we will have an exclusive voice channel open for Patrons. (There have been some technical issues with it this week and currently we haven’t been able to get it set up. We’ll keep you posted.) To participate, just sign up for a Discord account and join the Film Junk Discord server.
We are expecting to use Discord for more than just the Oscar chat in the future so you might want to sign up even if you aren’t planning on attending. Note: This is a brand new server that is separate from the existing Game Junk Discord server. If you have any questions, feel free to post them in the comments below. Otherwise, good luck and hope to see you Sunday night!
