The Jesus Rolls Teaser Trailer: John Turturro’s The Big Lebowski Spin-Off is Real

John Turturro has been talking about returning to the character of Jesus from The Coen Brothers’ cult classic The Big Lebowski for years now, but with The Coens obviously having no interest in a sequel, he has taken it upon himself to try and give fans the next best thing. Now it looks like The Jesus Rolls is finally becoming a reality and we actually have a teaser trailer to prove it. That being said, it doesn’t show much although it seems to involve bowling and it may or may not be attempting to recapture the trippy feel of The Big Lebowski‘s dream sequences. The plot is said to revolve around Jesus being released from prison and teaming up with two friends to “embark on a freewheeling joyride of petty crime and romantic entanglements.” With a supporting cast that includes Bobby Cannavale, Susan Sarandon, Jon Hamm, Audrey Tautou and Christopher Walken, the movie is written and directed by Turturro himself. The Jesus Rolls hits select theatres and VOD on March 6th; check out the teaser trailer below.

This is apparently also a remake of a 1974 french film called Going Places. Interesting that Turturro’s taking the story of an existing movie and combining it with an existing character from another. That VOD release doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence though.

  • Horrible horrible horrible idea.

Notice that all the trailer does is try to highlight the amazing cast rather than giving you any clips or anything to actually latch on to? Yeah, this is a bad thing coming.
