Vivarium Trailer Starring Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots

After appearing together in Riley Stearns’ dark comedy The Art of Self-Defense last year, Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Poots are teaming up again for another dark comedy with a sci-fi twist. Directed by Irish filmmaker Lorcan Finnegan, Vivarium revolves around a young house-hunting couple who suddenly find themselves trapped in a labyrinthine neighborhood of identical houses and forced to follow the whims of an unknown force. The goal, or so it seems, is to skewer mindless middle-class American ideals by indulging in the atmosphere and trappings of a horror movie. Consider me interested, although the trailer also goes on to highlight an 89% score on Rotten Tomatoes (now 87%) which feels a little… desperate? Vivarium hits select theatres and VOD on March 27th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

I’m seeing RT percentage used a lot more in marketing these days. Usually it will highlight that it is certified fresh, which seems to be the new “Two Thumbs Up!” I’ve also started to see TV spots with imdb user reviews and ones that also say the cinema score. Quotes from critics are becoming a thing of the past…

I agree the “certified fresh” thing is used a lot. This trailer just went above and beyond… especially since 89% isn’t *that* great. :)

  • The movie is actually pretty good. It gets legitimately creepy later on. It’s got a really neat aesthetic and interesting performances. It sticks the landing too.

Very intriguing!! Can’t wait to see it.
