Monday Morning Box Office Report: Bad Boys Make Bank

Coming into the weekend it was somewhat unclear if audiences would show up for a new Bad Boys movie after a 17 year wait, but Will Smith and Martin Lawrence delivered in a big way. Bad Boys for Life managed to exceed all expectations with a $59.2 million weekend, the best opening of the series thus far and the best ever R-rated debut for Sony. I guess it’s no surprise that a fourth Bad Boys movie is now in the works. In second place, Dolittle also did better than expected, earning $22 million despite terrible reviews which is probably a testament to the drawing power of Robert Downey Jr. 1917 fell to third place, while Jumanji and Star Wars rounded out the top 5. Outside the top 10, Makoto Shinkai’s Weathering With You brought in an estimated $5 million since its debut on Wednesday, quickly becoming the highest-grossing movie ever for GKIDS.
