We’ve been hearing about the possibility of a sequel to the 1988 fantasy film Willow for well over a decade now with George Lucas himself supposedly contemplating it back before he sold Lucasfilm to Disney in 2012. When Willow director Ron Howard was brought on to finish Solo: A Star Wars Story in 2018, the rumours kicked up again and at that point the conversation had fully shifted to doing a TV series instead. Jonathan Kasdan, one of the writers on Solo, was said to be the driving force behind it, having pitched an idea to both Howard and Kathleen Kennedy. Now this week Kasdan posted a mysterious tweet that seems to confirm that the Willow TV series is indeed moving forward:

It’s not a lot to go on, but it would appear that the Willow TV series is now in active development. The assumption is that it is being developed for Disney+, which would make perfect sense, although that has yet to be confirmed. As for what the show will be about, Howard has previously stated “it would focus a lot on Elora Danan, although Willow would have to be significantly involved.” Whether or not Val Kilmer might consider returning as Madmartigan remains to be seen. Are you excited for a Willow TV series?
