After the unparalleled success of Avengers: Endgame last year, Marvel is now being forced to rebuild their stable of characters with some new properties over the next couple of years including The Eternals and Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Fortunately for them, there are still a few familiar faces to rely on as well with Thor being one of the biggest solo franchises returning for Phase Four. The next installment, Thor: Love and Thunder, is a movie that they can definitely bank on, particularly with Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi back in the director’s chair and Natalie Portman also returning. Now they appear to be doubling down with the addition of another A-list actor: Christian Bale. Hit the jump to find out what we know.
According to Collider and THR, Christian Bale is currently in talks to join the cast of Thor: Love and Thunder. It is unclear for the moment who he might play, although there is some speculation that he could be playing Thor’s half-brother Balder the Brave or perhaps Beta Ray Bill, an alien who also wields a hammer of his own. Tessa Thompson is also expected to return as Valkyrie.
The movie is said to be drawing from The Mighty Thor comic with Natalie Portman eventually taking on the mantle of Thor herself. Although Bale spent three films playing Batman for Christopher Nolan, it seems a bit surprising he would join the MCU since he has made a point to stay far away from sci-fi / fantasy blockbusters in recent years. It might make more sense if he is only planning a one-off appearance, perhaps as a villain. Thor: Love and Thunder is scheduled to hit theatres on Nov. 5th, 2021. Are you excited by this news and, if so, who would you like to see Christian Bale play?
